Indonesian rock climbers from the Indonesia Big Wall Expedition (IBEX) have successfully reached the summit of Nameless Peak in the Trango Tower area of Pakistan. The achievement took place on Monday, 11 August 2025, at 1:30 p.m. Pakistan time (3:30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time), according to Wawan, a support team member based in Bandung, who spoke to Lingkar Bumi.
This milestone marks the first time a team from Southeast Asia has reached the peak. Nameless Peak, standing at 6,251 meters above sea level (masl), is considered one of the most technically difficult big walls in the world. The climbing route begins at roughly 5,000 masl, requiring not just physical strength but also advanced technical skill. Over the years, many of the world’s most renowned climbers have attempted expeditions here.

According to Freden Meihara Sembiring, leader of the Ekspedisi Merah Putih Trango Tower (EMPTT), the climb was not only a tribute to Indonesia’s 80th Independence Anniversary but also a mission to put Indonesia’s natural rock climbing achievements on par with those of the world’s elite climbers.
The IBEX team consisted of six members: Freden Meihara Sembiring, Iqbal Kemal Fasya, Deden Wahyudin, Nazib Fadhlullah, Iqbal Ramadhan, and Asep Tatang. They departed from Jakarta on 13 July 2025 and were scheduled to return on 13 August 2025.

The team reached the Trango Tower base camp on 21 July 2025, where they began acclimatizing to the high-altitude environment. In the following days, they conducted several preparatory climbs to the “Sun Terrace,” the starting point of the final ascent. From there, the seven-day push to the steep, unforgiving slopes of Nameless Peak began—culminating in their historic summit on 11 August. (Sulung Prasetyo)
